Claude Went Down Monday Morning. Anthropic Says It’s Fixed.
If you fired up Claude early Monday and got nothing but errors, you weren’t alone. Anthropic’s AI service hit a rough patch that lasted more than two hours before the company got things back on track.
The outage started just before 7 a.m. ET and affected several Claude products, including Claude.AI, Claude Code, and the Claude Opus 4.6 model. Anthropic confirmed everything was back up and running shortly before 11 a.m. ET.
Nearly 2,000 Users Reported Problems at the Peak
Downdetector, the service monitoring platform, caught the spike early. Reports of Claude issues surged around 6:45 a.m. ET, with close to 2,000 users flagging problems. By 9:30 a.m. ET, that number had dropped to around 275, suggesting the fix was rolling out gradually before Anthropic’s official all-clear.

Anthropic’s own status page confirmed the disruption, showing continued errors well into the morning. For users relying on Claude for work, that’s a frustrating stretch of downtime right at the start of the business day.
Anthropic Pointed to Surging Demand
When Anthropic officially confirmed the resolution at 11 a.m. ET, the company hinted at what might be behind the scenes.
“We’re grateful to our users while the team works to match the incredible demand we’ve seen for Claude in recent days,” the company said in a statement.
That’s a pretty telling line. Anthropic isn’t calling this a technical failure in the traditional sense. Instead, they’re framing it as a capacity challenge, suggesting Claude’s user base is growing faster than their infrastructure can comfortably handle right now.

Claude Outages Don’t Happen in a Vacuum
It’s worth noting this outage comes amid a broader, complicated moment for Anthropic. The company has faced political scrutiny recently, including public criticism from the Trump administration over its AI products. That context doesn’t explain Monday’s technical issues, but it adds to the pressure Anthropic is navigating right now.
For everyday Claude users, the practical takeaway is straightforward. The service came back online, and Anthropic appears to be actively working on scaling to meet demand. But if you depend on Claude for time-sensitive work, it’s worth having a backup plan ready. Even the best AI tools go down sometimes, and a two-hour outage right at the start of a workday is a solid reminder of that.
